Steinhart has just introduced their latest timepiece – TRITON 1000 Titan. It features a new TRITON case, this time made of Titanium. However, it’s not the only change of this refreshed TRITON design.
Honestly, I’m really glad to see Steinhart is developing their existing lineup outside the Ocean One series. Triton has been one of my favourite watches from Steinhart, and this iteration seems especially interesting. It’s beefy no-nonsense diver’s watch with an increased water resistance to a whooping 1000 meters.
The most noticeable change is of course the case itself. Not only it’s now made satined titanium but its shape has also been redesigned. It now feels more sporty and more streamlined with the crownguard being seamlessly integrated into the case itself. The crown position hasn’t changed in comparison to previous Triton and it’s still located at 4 0’clock. There is new addition in a form of an automatic helium escape valve located at 2 o’clock. There is also new engraving on the caseback with Poseidon’s effigy.
Despite the fact that the case is made of titanium, it still has a decent weight to it of 144 g. I’m pointing this out because many people are put off by titanium’s light weight. The overall size hasn’t change though. It’s still a massive 45 mm case with 24 mm lug width. However, the case is now just a little tad higher (15 mm vs old Triton’s 14 mm).
The front of the watch is dominated by the bold looking black DLC diver’s bezel. It’s a 120 click unidirectional bezel with a military style markings and an orange triangle at 12 0’clock to match orange accents on the dial. Speaking of the dial, it’s also been redesigned and now it’s more sporty and aggressive with it’s high contrast black, white and orange elements. The dial is protected by a thick flat sapphire crystal, which has double AR coating on the inside.
Likewise it’s predecessor, TRITON 1000 Titan is powered by Swiss ETA 2824-2 Elaboré. It’s a reliable workhorse, which proven to be reliable and easily serviceable.
Steinhart TRITON 1000 Titan comes on a grey vintage leather strap with orange stitching to match the range accents on the dial and bezel. The strap is 24 mm wide at the lugs side and 22 mm at the buckle. It’s worth mentioning that Pre-V style buckle is also made of titanium, and it has Steinhart logo engraved.
Steinhart TRITON 1000 Titan is already available at Steinhart online store for 650 euro, excluding shipping. It seems to be reasonably priced for a Swiss made watch with its spec sheet and ETA 2824-2 automatic movement.
