Hemel Watches is an American micro brand, which specializes in military-styled watches. Currently, they offer 4 different designs, let’s see how they look like.
Hemel Watches was founded by Marvin Menke, a New York based designer who graduated from Fashion Institute of Technology. Marvin has over 20 years of design and branding experience, which he acquired while working for high profile brands like Nautica, Donna Karan and The Gap. He decided to turn his knowledge into his own business, which resulted in the creation of Hemel Watches.
While designing his line of military-style watches, Marvin wanted to create a watch which would be rugged and refined at the same time in order to suit the needs of a modern man.
With the Hemel Military (HM) series, I set out to develop a luxury men’s watch that combined the iconic heritage look of miltary timepieces with the refined style of the modern gentleman. And, as a watch collector, all the timepieces in the HM series feature technical specs every true watch enthusiast looks for – like an automatic movement, a 316L stainless steel case and sapphire crystals – all for under $400.
Hemel Military series offer 4 different designs, which uses the same 40 mm stainless steel case. The 316L case is available in both polished and bead blasted finishing. The lug 2 lug distance is at 48 mm and the lug width is 20 mm. All watches are fitted with a domed sapphire crystal on the front and flat sapphire on the exhibition caseback. Watches from the HM series are water resistant up to 100 m, thanks to a screwdown crown, which is reasonable for a military watch.
Each of the four watches has its own name: Hemel 24, Hemel Arrowhead, Hemel Spear, Hemel Track. As I mentioned earlier, all four watches share the same stainless steel case. The difference between each model comes to dial and handset design, as well as the strap they are shipped with.
Hemel Military watches are powered by Miyota 9015 automatic movement, an extremely popular choice for micro brand watch companies. The movement proved to be reliable and offers hand winding and hacking functions. Power reserve for this movement is typically 42 hours.
Watches from the Hemel Military series retail at $399 but you can use promo code PREORDER to get 30% off. Be sure to check Hemel website for more information.
